Our Process

When you contact Save Energy Experts, we'll send one of our Energy Star-certified auditors to your home to discuss your concerns with you and learn about your home's history. We'll do a home walkthrough with you to highlight potential problem sources and then we'll conduct a thorough whole-house evaluation that includes all this:

  • A Thermal Imaging Scan. Using infrared cameras, we'll examine all concealed structural cavities throughout your home to identify temperature variations, a key indicator of energy waste. We'll also search for hidden water leaks, the leading cause of indoor mold and structural failures.
  • A Door Blower Test. Drafty doors and window drafts are a major contributor of hot and cold spots throughout your home. Using special equipment, this test will identify all drafts and gage the severity of each so you'll understand just how much energy is being wasted. We'll even go as far as providing you with a scientific analysis that quantifies the air leakages throughout your home so you can compare your home to similar homes and have a benchmark for improvements.
  • A Duct Blaster Test. Your home's duct system can be full of leaks without you knowing it. In fact, the average system leaks up to 40% of the air. This can cause unnecessary strain on your HVAC system(s) and result in expensive energy bills. Our Duct Blaster Test quantifies all leaks within your duct system so you can fix them and save money.
  • A Water Management Component Evaluation. From problems with your gutter system and wall/roof coverings to your landscape grading, your home may be exposed to excessive moisture that can lead to dangerous mold and mildew buildup. Our audit includes a complete visual inspection of all water management components so you'll know about all existing and potential problems and how to fix them.
  • A Ventilation Component Test and Evaluation. Your home's ventilation system is responsible for expelling unwanted pollutants and contaminants from your home. If it's not working properly, your indoor air quality will suffer and your family will be at risk for serious health issues. Our inspection reviews all components of the ventilation system, including power exhaust vents, and attic/crawlspace ventilation systems and alerts you to any potential indoor air quality issues that you might face.
  • A Thorough Evaluation of HVAC System Components. Your heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC) is responsible for the majority of your energy bills. If it's not maintained, sized or balanced properly, you're wasting energy and money each month. We'll evaluate your entire system (or systems, if you have more than one) and provide you with an efficiency rating and any necessary suggestions for improvement.
  • A Carbon Monoxide and Gas Leakage Evaluation. Carbon Monoxide is a tasteless, odorless gas that is extremely toxic to humans. In fact, it is the leading contributor of lethal air poisoning inside the home. We'll conduct a wide array of safety tests to identify and predict potential Carbon Monoxide and fuel gas buildup within your home so you can correct any problems and keep your family safe.

Following the completion of our "Home Performance with Energy Star" assessment, you'll receive the following reports:

  • A Report including all identified problems and areas for concern in and around your home, along with supporting visual and infrared images and a written list of recommended remedies based on cost-effectiveness.
  • A prioritized list of recommended improvements based on the "Home Performance with Energy Star" program guidelines. This schedule of recommended improvements will be independently verified by Southface Institute, a recognized regional leader in Green Building Technologies.

Once you've taken the steps to correct any problems throughout your home, you can apply for the Home Performance with Energy Star certification, a certificate that can add significant value to your home's value.
