You could receive as much as $2,000 from Georgia Power toward your home energy improvements. An additional $200 reimbursement for the whole-house assessment is available regardless of whether you decide to conduct any improvement work. In order to qualify for these generous rebates, you must have a professional home energy audit conducted.
SHINE (Sustainable Home Initiative in the New Economy) is a residential weatherization rebate Pilot Program offering City of Atlanta homeowners the ability to receive up to a $2,000 rebate towards qualifying improvements. Improvements include, but are not limited to duct and air sealing, insulation improvement, caulking, weather-stripping, and the replacement of doors and windows that are the source of significant heating and cooling loss.
You must meet the following criteria to qualify for the SHINE rebate:
Your home must be in the City of Atlanta
Single-family homes qualify (need not be owner occupied)
Home must undergo home energy efficiency assessment by HPwES Professional (like Save Energy Experts)
Work must be performed by a SHINE qualified improvement contractor
Work must be completed before rebate will be issued
Marietta Power customers are eligible for up to $700 in rebates under Green Street Program.
GA Residents
If you do not happen to be an Atlanta resident or Georgia Power customer, you may still qualify for Home Performance with Energy Star certification, potentially adding thousands of dollars to the value of you home. You may also qualify for a potential $500 federal income tax credit if you make certain home energy improvements during 2011. Check with your local energy company to find out what incentives and rebates are available to you.
All rebates will be paid directly to the homeowner! Hurry, all tax credits and GA Power rebates are set to expire on Dec 31, 2011. SHINE incentives funds are limited and distributed on a "First come, first served basis".
